“All joints are created equal, but some joints are true aristocrats. The elbow, wrist and hand joints are the “Jeffersonian” joints – elegant, articulate and refined. They are the means of writing sonnets, reattaching retinas, and flying space shuttles. There is nothing precious or fragile about them, though. The thumb and forefinger are where theory and experience converge. Capable of a light tough or a killing blow, praying or punching, these joints epitomize the ascent of man. When they hurt, we pay attention.” (Pete Egoscue, Pain Free: A revolutionary method for stopping chronic pain)
